In the late 1970s BMW’s M Division decided to build a fast, brand new sportscar.

So, the spaceframe, the reinforced plastic body and the interior was produced in Italy. The body was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro’s Italdesign, taking inspiration from the 1972 BMW Turbo show car. When the body and the interior were ready, they transported the cars to Stuttgart, where they mounted all the mechanical components into the body.

The car has a 3.5-litre straight six cylinder engine, which has 277bhp and a five-speed manual gearbox. The top speed of this car is 164 mph, which is great for a 34 year old car!

This particular car which you can see on the pictures is a BMW M1 made in 1981. It has only 17 500 km / 10 873 mi, so it’s basically a new car. It is also painted in a very rare Polaris Silver colour, just 3 BMW M1 were painted in this colour and just 453 M1 were ever built!

So, this is why they want 937 040USD / 850 000€ / 609 705£ for this car at Mint Classics.
